Letters From Wanderland
In the current age of technology, social media, and instant gratification, honest and unfiltered expressions of love and gratitude are becoming uncommon; so is longhand letter writing. One biracial twenty-six year old woman did both as she backpacked up the East Coast of Australia.
What started out as a few thank you letters turned into Letters From Wanderland-- an endearing collection of 50+ handwritten letters dedicated to travelers that became friends, friends that became family, and family and friends Kayla McCain left behind for a solo backpacking trip to find the self-love she lost when she came out as a lesbian in high school.
Kayla crossed paths with an ex-military Israeli man while working on a veggie farm, drove on the world's largest sand island with two Irish girls, a British nurse, and a car full of German university students, and she went on a sailing trip that led to an unexpected, short-lived romantic connection with a man. These experiences, and more, taught her what it means to live, love, and wander with courage.
McCain found more than the beauty in small moments she experienced with travelers who were wandering around the world like she was. She also found courage to tell her loved ones how they inspired her to stay alive when she questioned if life was worth living.
50+ people. 50+ letters. 50+ times McCain celebrated moments lived, emotions felt, and lessons learned, all with people that wandered into her life, and she in theirs.
