SON OF BYFORD is a meandering mining of meaning from the memory of many middle passages. This collection refracts 1970's shades of Black and blues that give way to hip hop, postmillennium tensions, and godless queer queryings, informed by love, conviction, and hope.

Juba Kalamka is most recognized for his work as co founder and producer of homohop group, Deep Dickollective (D/DC), and for his development of the micro label sugartruck recordings. His cultural work and writing centers on intersectional dialogues on race, identity, gender, disability, sexuality, and class in popular media. He served six years as a music columnist, book reviewer and feature writer for Colorlines Magazine. Kalamka lives in Oakland with his partner of 20 years, their daughter, a neurotic standard poodle, and an enthusiastically territorial rescue dog. SON OF BYFORD is his first book.
