... a year of transition to joy

After a year of hormone replacement therapy, she finally reached the genesis of her life. It was time for the world to meet the authentic Deanna. She anticipated being greeted by hostility and hate, assuming the rest of her life would be spent shielding herself from an unwelcoming world.

She found something quite different.

Most people that she encountered that first year didn't approach her with contempt but with genuine curiosity and questions. What does being trans even mean? What does it feel like? Are there men interested in trans women?

Deanna began sharing some of her journal entries to help promote understanding. She received incredible reactions from trans-gender, non-binary, and cis-gender friends who found her heartfelt stories, hilarious anecdotes, and dash of trans related education enlightening.

Her journal entries from this year of revelation are what you will find in these pages. Though written by a trans person, these stories will be of benefit to anyone seeking to reframe, find perspective, stay steady in their resolve, and strike a positive balance in their life.

Through lived examples of fear, privilege, sexism, difficult insights, and awareness, Deanna journeys through a year of acceptance, love and, above all, joy.

Deanna Haynes holds the Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatrical Design & Technology from Louisiana State University and has worked for over twenty years as a Professor of Theatre and Speech. She has provided designs for over eighty theatrical productions throughout her career and has worked in most every area of theatre. Deanna is currently employed as a standardized patient in Nashville, TN. She is pursuing becoming a certified Life Transition Coach serving the LGBTQ+ community. She lives in Middle Tennessee with the best boy in the world, a black lab mix named Poncho. This is her first book. Please visit www.AuntJoansCabin.net
