Thimble and the Girl from Mars
Fourth book in the series which began with Thimble Monkey Superstar, shortlisted for the Laugh Out Loud awards. Once again Thimble causes chaos in Dawson Castle, the bungalow home of failed children's author Douglas Dawson and his disabled son Jams. This time, however, there is a new character on the scene: Bunches Rattigan, a feisty, football-playing, internet-savvy girl from Mars (or so Jams sees her). When Bunches sets her sights on Thimble, and Jams makes an ill-advised bet with her, the scene is set for a struggle for Thimble's affections which leads to both hilarious and downright dangerous adventures. Jon Blake, author of over 60 children's books including the quarter-million selling 'You're a Hero Daley B', once more teams up with brilliant illustrator Martin Chatterton - a partnership which stretches back to the nineties, when they were shortlisted for the Children's Book Award. The result is a whole lot of fun and a few things to think about as well, particularly on the subject of disability.

His works include the picture book "You're A Hero, Daley B" (illustrated by Axel Scheffler, worldwide sales of over 250,000), as well as "Little Stupendo", which was shortlisted for the Red House Children's Book Award. In 1995 Jon's TV play 'Life' was shortlisted for a Writers Guild Award, while in 2002 he won a BBC Talent award for his adult radio sitcom "Degrees R Us", which was broadcast on BBC Radio Wales. In 2017 'Thimble Monkey Superstar', featuring a narrator with cerebral palsy based on Jon's son, was shortlisted for the Lollies (Laugh Out Loud awards). 'Thimble Monkey Superstar' was the eighth of Jon's books to be illustrated by Martin Chatterton. Jon is particularly noted for original and anarchic humour, typified by "Stinky Finger's House of Fun" and the subsequent "House of Fun" series illustrated by David Roberts. However, he has also written radical young adult fiction, such as anti-privatisation thriller "The Last Free Cat" and an adult novel, '69ers', based on the 1969 (Bob Dylan) Isle of Wight Festival.
