The legendary Tears of Apphat, two blue sapphires that hold immense power have not been seen in a hundred years. A dream brought to a powerful seeress for interpretation, foretells the rise of an evil sorceress responsible for the theft of one of the Tears, throwing the world into a state of imbalance. It also foretells that only an initiate of Apphat can restore the Great Harmony.

Aldrik is unsure what to do with his life. He is the target of ridicule at school, unable to control his visions; his powers are beyond his understanding. He knows he is different; his attraction to a young shepherd confounds him. Yet his capacity to love is intrinsically connected to his destiny as a healer and magician.

After four years of training, Aldrik, initiated as healer and magician, is summoned to find the missing Tears of Apphat. He will encounter great magic, battle to control his talent, face struggles, fear, loss and heartbreak before understanding that his wisdom lies neither in his head nor his magic. Finally accepting his heart, he will confront the sorceress and surrender to his true destiny.

The legendary Tears of Apphat, two blue sapphires that hold immense power have not been seen in a hundred years. The theme of love and magic runs strongly throughout the novel on a number of levels and gives the adventure a deeper meaning. Love is shown to be the ultimate power in the universe and its deptiction in the story is moving. The story shows the reader what it truly means to love someone: committing everything a person has to the wellbeing of another. The story does not discriminate between heterosexual and homosexual relationships and shows that love is not about gender and lust, but about two souls who are made to journey through life together. The novel would have a strong appeal to young adults from both LGBT and straight communities.
