About the Author
Buie, Alphonso: - I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. Books were my window to the world, and pushed me to go further in life. I became inspired to write when my godson wanted me to teach him and told me I should write; that I could write. Smartest 3-year old that I know. One of my passions in life is to present him and other young minds with a platform to one day develop their own philosophies grounded in unconditional love, vast bodies of knowledge, and a respect for creativity. It is time to update our narratives in society as human beings. We need to create thoughts of human compassion from very young ages that embrace differences simply because we are all similar. We all share in laughter, grow in thoughts and are nourished by love. Together let us show our children that our differences make us greater and the similarities help our bonds grow stronger. As for me, I am just happy that I get to share and write.Williams, Shawnna L.: - Specifically for this project, my mission is to use this creative platform to represent the current reality of world we live in, and not what society has deemed to be normal, by way of celebrating differences and portraying one of the common traits of all people-LOVE! Since kindergarten I have always been drawn to creating portraits. Being shy and introverted, it became my way of connecting to people and sharing my opinions and passions with others. During a Temple University semester in Rome, my passion for creating works of art that featured traditionally underrepresented people grew immensely. It was then that I truly decided that I would depict the world as it is; a huge canvas filled with a beautiful range of colors and different people.
