What allows us to grow from our past? Desmond Thompson seeks answers in his debut collection of poetry, To Forget Such Troubling Nightmares. Thompson uses life events, nature, and creative storytelling to examine a deeper understanding of the developing character. Each chapter captures a specific theme with full-bodied openness and vulnerability. This book addresses a broad range of topics. Some potentially triggering topics discuss mental illness, self-harm, and surviving sexual assault (which are addressed in the opening chapter "Skewed Brain").

Desmond X Thompson is a poet, writer, and author-illustrator from Oklahoma currently living in California. His debut collection of poetry "To Forget Such Troubling Nightmares" uses key moments and creative storytelling to give readers a look into his world as a gay person of color living with mental illness. Thompson is also an aspiring fantasy writer. His Native America based fantasy project is set to be released in 2027. A proud member of Cherokee nation, Thompson enjoys being active in the community and collecting books on Native American history.
